Transition Year
Having completed Junior Cycle, there is an option of participating in Transition Year. This year places an emphasis on the student’s growth in maturity and personal development, including social awareness and social competence. Pupils sample modules of all Leaving Certificate subjects during T.Y., thus enabling them to make a clear, informed choice of subjects for the Leaving Certificate programme.

THE BOARDING EXPERIENCE
Boarding at Rockwell College allows the pupil to maximise his/her potential by participating in a structured educational and pastoral environment. The Residence management and staff aim to create a “home away from home” for pupils. Boarders can avail of a strong academic, sporting and extracurricular programme aimed at improving all aspects of a pupil’s development.
Shanahan Hall provides boarding facilities for 120 boys between the ages of 12 and 19. Recently modernised dormitories provide facilities which house single and double bedrooms. Boarders can also avail of an in-house cinema and weights room. Regulated internet access is also available.
Shanahan Hall provides separate toilets and shower rooms for each age group. An on-site laundry service, is also available for boarders.
Trips and excursions are organised regularly throughout the year to entertain our boarders and to give them an opportunity to see some local and national history and culture. Sample excursions include Cahir Castle, Mitchelstown caves, Kilkenny Castle as well as paint-balling, karting, ice-skating and bowling.

SCHOOL LOCATION
Rockwell College is located in Cashel, a small town in the Irish midlands. Despite its size, it is home to one of Ireland’s most visited tourist attractions, The Rock of Cashel. This spectacular archaeological site is a prominent green hill, banded with limestone outcrops, risingfrom a grassy plain and bristling with ancient fortifications. It’s a five-minute stroll from the town centre up to the Rock, from where fantastic views range over the Tipperary countryside.
