Boarding School Exchange at cushing Academy
Cushing Academy was founded in 1865 just 60 miles from Boston as a coeducational college preparatory day and boarding school. Today, more than 150 years later, the school is still transforming students as scholars, athletes, artists, and individuals who are endlessly curious and actively engaged in discovering new talents and interests.Â
According to its mission statement, “Cushing Academy exists for students and develops curious, creative, and confident learners and leaders.“ This goal of putting every student is the school’s primary focus.Â
By fostering a strong sense of self-esteem, self-discipline, and self-confidence, Cushing pushes its students both academically and personally to persevere and grow through challenges into leading citizens of the world.
Cushing Academy is the academic home to 400 students. As many as 360 students board at the school, which ensures a lively, engaged, and stimulating campus environment. Among Cushing’s students are 150 international students representing 30 countries. Here, you truly get the global experience as you interact with cultures from all over the world.
Aside from the excellent academics, Cushing also offers a vibrant life outside of school. ACADEMICS
The Cushing Academy’s innovative curriculum prepares its students for college and life by emphasizing essential skills such as collaboration, communication, and global awareness. The school prioritizes the individual student both academically and personally, a focus strengthened by small average class sizes of 12 students as well as the student-teacher ratio of 7:1.

UNIQUE PROGRAMS
In addition to its academic curriculum, Cushing Academy offers an internationally renowned English as a Second Language (ESL) program.The program is designed to prepare non-native speakers of English for equal participation with American students in all school activities.
The program reaches far beyond the classroom, offering a variety of resources and support for international students. The English proficiency of non-native English speakers is established through a series of tests following enrollment in Cushing Academy. Students are then placed at the appropriate level.
THE BOARDING EXPERIENCE
At the heart of the Academy is a close-knit, residential community. Cushing’s campus is abuzz with activity from dawn until dusk, as students participate not only in classes but also in afternoon activities and optional events such as theatre, clubs, and impromptu games.
Living on campus and in dormitories is one of the many reasons why Cushing Academy is a special place to learn and grow. It is an environment where students can develop lasting relationships, discover their passions, develop and grow their talents, and learn to take intellectual risks.
