Fountain Valley School is a co-ed independent college preparatory school for grades 9-12 in Colorado Springs. Established in 1930, the school began with the belief that a boarding school dedicated to traditional standards of excellence, character, and progressive ideals would thrive in the sublime setting of the American West.Â
At Fountain Valley, the broad-based liberal arts approach and dedicated faculty will challenge you through globally-minded inquiry, problem-solving, experiential learning, athletics, and creative expression.
Every year, about 245 students enroll at Fountain Valley School. Of these, about 165 are boarding students, including 62 international students.
The school prides itself on its progressive and global approach to its unique brand, and over the years, Fountain Valley has grown into a vibrant international community of students from 21 countries and 24 states.
The 1,100-acre main campus is located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains and acts like a park-like refuge from the big city that surrounds the school. Outside the classroom, enjoy the many sports and extracurricular activities, go skiing on the mountains, or relax with friends at the student center.
ACADEMICS
Academics at Fountain Valley School of Colorado are challenging and comprehensive, offering honors and advanced courses in all disciplines while providing a flexible approach to assure appropriate course placement for all students. Here, you’ll get individual attention and care as you find yourself in classes averaging 12-14 students and a student-faculty ratio of 6:1.

UNIQUE PROGRAMS
Fountain Valley offers a wide range of Defining Programs. The Sophomore Western Immersion Program is a three-day academic trip to the school’s Mountain Campus covering a writing seminar on ecology and nature, an art block, and finally a history block focusing on the history of the silver mining era of the late 1800s.
In the Global Scholar Diploma (GSD) Program, which includes travel and community service, students focus on the nature of global interdependence and prepare to pursue an education in the international arena.
The FVS Equestrian Program caters to all riders—from competitive and experienced to never-ridden. You can ride five days a week, English or Western, and earn varsity letters. Bring your horse to school with you or ride one of FVS’s 60 horses!
Finally, the Interim Expeditions Program consists of weeklong projects of hands-on learning either close to campus or crossing international borders.
THE BOARDING EXPERIENCE
At Fountain Valley School, you’ll intentionally in a small, supportive community. Students stay in one of ten beautiful, adobe residential houses each hosting small groups of just 16-20 students along with a house director and their family.
ATHLETICS & EXTRACURRICULARS
All students at Fountain Valley participate in afternoon programs, choosing from either a sport or non-athletic option. Choose from a wide selection of offerings:

SPARE TIME
In their spare time, students gather in the Campus Center to hang out, study together, order snacks from the RK Cafe and play ping pong, pool or video games. Weekend activities include trips to movies, markets, and stores, ice skating, games of Humans vs. Zombies on campus, Yoga, and swimming.
You can also join the Ski/Ride Weekend. Head to the Mountain Campus just two hours away for two days of skiing or snowboarding at nearby Monarch Mountain. This is an opportunity for beginners and experts alike to experience floating through Colorado’s legendary powder snow. During the evening, you’ll head to nearby natural hot springs for a soak in geothermal-fed bliss.
