BOARDING SCHOOL EXCHANGE AT
Fryeburg academy

Fryeburg Academy is an independent secondary school set in a classic New England village, in the foothills of the White Mountains. Maintaining a tradition of democracy and academic excellence since 1792, the school was one of the first schools built in Maine. The school offers traditional and comprehensive education courses – a preparatory school for college and life!

Fryeburg prides itself on its diverse teaching methods, and there is no one way when it comes to classroom education. Education here is based on three principles: critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. Teachers strive to make learning exciting, challenging, and fun, so that students get the most out of their academic life at Fryeburg.

The school serves a widely diverse population of local day students and boarding students from across the nation and around the world! About 600 students attend Fryeburg Academy every year, with about 100 international students, all together representing more than 20 different countries.

Besides the outstanding academic curriculum, Fryeburg offers a multitude of outdoor activities, athletics, clubs, events, performances, and travel. Why not also take the opportunity to visit larger cities such as Portland or Boston? One thing is for sure, at Fryeburg Academy, you will never be bored!

Fryeburg Academy Internships is an opportunity for junior and senior students to gain business or other community-based experience in a field of interest. Internships are intended to broaden student awareness of potential career fields, develop their workplace skills and ethics, and contribute positively to business and services in the Mount Washington Valley.

The Certificate in Adventure Education is for students seeking experiences that extend beyond our campus into the mountains and rivers around Fryeburg, whether they want to engage in outdoor recreation responsibly, or are interested in exploring careers in the outdoor industry.

The Certificate of Arts gives students the opportunity to enhance their arts training through course work and extracurricular offerings on and off campus. Students may choose General Arts, Visual Arts, or Performing Arts.

Entrepreneurship Studies is a partnership with the University of Southern Maine School of Businesses Center for Entrepreneurship. May Term is the hands-on, action-oriented interval concluding the school year for grades 9-11. For three weeks, students focus on project and performance-oriented study, community service, off-campus experiences, and travel. A recent May Term sampling includes classes in global investment, interior design, Mediterranean cooking, robotics, 3-D animation, and ballroom dancing.
