Founded in 1858, Shattucks-St. Mary’s School is a co-educational, Episcopal boarding and day school. The school is a global, dynamic, and diverse learning community committed to embracing excellence, integrity, and innovation, here and in the students’ future lives. Shattucks-St. Mary’s is well-renowned for its unique Center of Excellence model which allows students to improve and excel within their chosen area of passion. By cultivating creative, independent thinking, Shattucks-St. Mary’s fosters the transformation of its students to become citizens of integrity for an ever-changing world.

Spanning Middle School (grades 6-8) and Upper School (grades 9-12), the school has a student body of about 410, 75% of which are boarders. The school is proud of its international and diverse student body – students come to Shattucks-St. Mary’s from all over the US and the world, representing 36 states and 17 countries.

ACADEMICS

Shatttucks-St. Mary’s school motto – All In – is particularly fitting when it comes to academics. The school strives to give its students the best of the best, from modern facilities and innovative technology to dedicated and competent teachers, staff, and coaches. Small class sizes of 12 students on average and a student:teacher ratio of 8:1 ensures that all students are given personalized attention and support.

UNIQUE PROGRAMS

Alongside its traditional curriculum, Shattucks-St. Mary’s also offers students the chance to participate in the different Centers of Excellence covering academics and music.

The BioScience Center of Excellence provides guidance, encouragement, intellectual challenge, and unique exploratory opportunities to students who LOVE science and are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.

The Engineering Center of Excellence is a fully engaging experience that introduces students to the world of engineering. It provides real, hands-on design and fabrication opportunities and project work, off-campus company and college tours, conferences, and seminars while also preparing students for the rigors of college.

The Major Center of Excellence allows students to develop and undertake a series of dynamic experiences designed around their personal interests. The Blended Learning model opens up the traditional high school schedule to allow students the flexibility to explore new areas of interest while also meeting the rigors of a core college preparatory program.

The Pre-Conservatory Center of Excellence allows students to combine their passion for music with a rigorous college-preparatory academic program. The program offers serious musicians ample practice time, weekly lessons with Master Teachers, courses in music theory, chamber music ensembles, numerous performance opportunities, master classes with world-renowned guest artists, and access to concerts featuring world-class performers.

The Vocal Performance Center of Excellence is a comprehensive, classical, and foundational music education centered around ensemble excellence and individual performance opportunities. These opportunities include annual musical theater productions, on and off campus holiday concerts, and performances with Minnesota Opera’s Project
Opera program.

Finally, the weCreate® program is a space and also a philosophy that stresses creativity, collaboration, and innovation. weCreate® helps our students pursue their individual passions, and include studios which feature video editing, lighting and animation, writing, fashion design, graphic design, e-design, architecture, music editing and recording, performance, digital photography and much more.

THE BOARDING EXPERIENCE

Shattucks-St. Mary’s believes that learning to live independently and managing one’s time is great preparation for college, and three out of four students live at the school. Most boarders have roommates, often from a different state or even a different country. The school also strives to take excellent care of its international students, including helping with language support, introducing students to the local community, and keeping in contact with parents.

SPARE TIME

Each weekend, there are activities planned for students. Outings can be as simple as movies at a local theatre or more elaborate such as dinner at a restaurant and a play in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The popular Mall of America, the biggest shopping mall in the U.S., is only 45 minutes from campus and is a popular weekend destination for shopping and eating. On campus, the weight room is open for working out; there are movies, three-on-three basketball and ping pong tournaments, open skating and soccer, bonfires and game nights in the dorms.

At Shattucks-St. Mary’s, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore beautiful Minnesota. The nearby area offers green parks, rivers, and lakes, and there’s also the city of Faribault itself, where the school is located.
