Boarding School Exchange at Marianapolis preparatory School

Dating back to 1926, Marianapolis Preparatory School is an independent, co-educational, Catholic, boarding and day school located in Thompson, CT for grades 9-12 and postgraduates. Here, students are involved in activities across disciplines and are constantly challenging themselves to set new goals and break molds.

Learning by doing and applying is a hallmark of a Marianapolis education, and students are exposed to numerous leadership opportunities focused on supporting the Marianapolis community and more specifically, the student body. Through leadership roles, students are prepared for life beyond Marianapolis.

While the mission of Marianapolis is to educate students in the Catholic tradition of academic excellence, the school is inclusive of all faiths and believes that spirituality is a foundation for compassionate, generous individuals. At Marianapolis, students grow into mature, self-directed adults with vision and purpose.

Marianapolis Prep is a vibrant, diverse, and energetic community of around 350 students from 56 area towns, numerous states around the U.S., and 20+ countries worldwide. About 28% of the student body board at the school, including the 90 international students calling Marianapolis their home each year.

You’ never be bored at Marianapolis! With 17 sports and 40+ extracurricular activities, there’s always something to do. If you want to explore away from campus, you’re only one hour away from major cities such as Boston in Massachusetts and Providence in Rhode Island. New York is only 3 hours away and can make a great and fun destination for a weekend trip!

ACADEMICS

At Marianapolis Prep, students are taken through an academic curriculum that fosters the development of critical disciplined thinking, precise communication, scientific analysis, creative problem solving, and an understanding of global perspectives. Each individual is prioritized through a student/teacher ratio of 7:1 and a small average class size of 12.

UNIQUE PROGRAMS

Marianapolis prides itself on its three Centers of Excellence (COE). The COE were created with the idea of giving students the opportunity to gain more practical experience while allowing them to become globally engaged in a specific focal area in addition to the traditional education model. Students can choose to focus on Civic Engagement & Service, Business & Entrepreneurship, and Innovation.

As stated, learning by doing a hallmark of Marianapolis academics. Therefore, the school offers two additional programs: the Experiential Learning Program (ELP) and LEAP (Live. Experience, Advance, Prepare) Week. The programs typically focus on interactive activities such as day trips where students and faculty explore a specific topic, project, or adventure.

THE BOARDING EXPERIENCE

The residential houses and halls at Marianapolis are the foundations of a diverse and global residential community. Here, students learn and grow, through programs and activities, as well as the cultural exchanges inherent in living together in a tight knit house or hall, fostering lifelong connections.

At Marianapolis, running out of things to do is unlikely! Each student must participate in two seasons of extracurricular activities every year, and the school boasts a wide variety of both competitive and non-competitive options. This includes everything from athletics to clubs, activities, and leadership options
