Ellesmere College is a fully co-educational school set in the beautiful English countryside. Founded in 1884, the school offers every student between the chance to achieve success in both their studies and a wide range of activities, including music, art, sport and drama, in a happy, friendly atmosphere. Offering a range of academic programs, Ellesmere is ranked in the Top 20 British schools offering the IB Diploma.

Great Britain has a world-wide reputation for its high standards of education. Ellesmere College supports that tradition by concentrating on the academic and social needs of its students. Most graduates from Ellesmere College achieve their first choice of further education and have gone on to attend, for example, Oxford, Cambridge, New York School of Visual Arts, Chicago School of Art, and Kings College London.

Ellesmere College hosts 550 students from years 3-13. Its boarding program hosts 220 students and accepts years 9-13 in the age range of 14-18. The school prides itself on producing global citizens, and every year sees 110 international students at Ellesmere equaling a 50/50 mix of local and international students.

Ellesmere College is conveniently located near the small, historic town of Ellesmere, and is less than 100 kilometres from both of England’s second major cities, Manchester and Birmingham. ACADEMICS

Academic life at Ellesmere is seriously challenging and exhilarating. The school’s core aim is to enable pupils to explore ideas, be guided to solutions and to ensure they remain intellectually curious. The academic excellence at Ellesmere also provides many out of classroom experiences to enhance learning such as field trips, visits and overseas opportunities.

Ellesmere College offers the British GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) for students age 15-16. For the upper level students in Sixth Form (grades 12-13), the choice is between the British A Levels or BTEC or International Baccalaureate (IB). Depending on the year group, average class sizes are between 12-24 students with a student-teacher ratio of 12:1.

THE BOARDING EXPERIENCE

Ellesmere is progressive in its thinking and offers boarding based on age group (Junior, Middle, and the Sixth Form). Each House is run by an experienced Housemaster or Housemistress. Students from many countries are all part of the boarding community, becoming fully involved in school life. Ellesmere’s modern accommodation provides a high quality, comfortable and secure environment for our students, with residential staff on site to tend to the students’ needs.

ATHLETICS

Ellesmere College prides itself on its sporting tradition, and there are opportunities for all students to find a sport that they can excel at. Furthermore, the school is an accredited WAoS (World Academy of Sport) Athlete Friendly Education Centre (AFEC), which guarantees students the proper flexibility to balance studies with demanding training and competition schedules.

Ellesmere has 7 distinct Sports Academies: Football, Tennis, Golf, Rugby, Swimming, Shooting, and Cricket. The school also offers a High Performance Hockey Program as well as several other sports programs and clubs, including:
